Healthcare has never been simple and today’s environment demands more from providers and healthcare organizations than ever before.
Changing regulations, complex payer requirements, documentation expectations, coding accuracy, denials, audits, staffing challenges, and revenue-cycle pressures can quickly become interconnected problems.
PACE Consulting, LLC was created to help healthcare organizations navigate that complexity with greater clarity, confidence, and control.
Through healthcare consulting, auditing, coding and compliance expertise, revenue cycle management, and professional education, PACE helps organizations identify vulnerabilities, strengthen processes, educate their teams, and develop practical strategies designed to support compliant and financially sound operations.
PACE isn’t simply our name. It represents the foundation upon which the organization was built.
Healthcare leaves little room for assumptions. From documentation and coding to claims, reimbursement, auditing, and compliance, accuracy matters. PACE approaches each engagement with careful analysis, attention to detail, and an understanding that seemingly small issues can have significant operational and financial consequences.
You cannot correct what you haven’t identified. Auditing provides the insight necessary to uncover coding inaccuracies, documentation deficiencies, revenue leakage, workflow breakdowns, compliance vulnerabilities, and recurring patterns that may otherwise remain hidden. PACE doesn’t believe an audit should end with a list of findings. The real value begins with understanding why those findings occurred and what should happen next.
Coding is where clinical documentation, regulatory requirements, and reimbursement intersect. Accurate coding requires more than selecting a code. It requires understanding documentation, coding guidelines, payer requirements, medical necessity considerations, and the broader revenue-cycle environment. Code accurately. Code compliantly. Code what the documentation supports.
Education is what makes improvement sustainable. Correcting a claim may solve today’s problem. Helping a provider, coder, biller, or healthcare team understand why the problem occurred can help prevent it from happening again. That is why education is not an afterthought at PACE. It is part of our foundation.
Meet Our Founder
Professionally known as Shelley Thompson
Founder & Principal Consultant | PACE Consulting, LLC
With more than 30 years of healthcare experience, Shelley Thompson brings together medical coding, billing, auditing, compliance, revenue cycle operations, provider education, and healthcare leadership.
Her career has provided a perspective that reaches beyond any single part of the revenue cycle. A documentation issue can become a coding issue. A coding issue can become a claim issue. A claim issue can become a denial, an underpayment, an audit exposure, or lost revenue. And sometimes what appears to be a billing problem actually began much earlier in the process.
Understanding those connections is central to the PACE approach.
Rather than looking only at the claim in front of us, PACE examines the larger picture—documentation, coding, workflows, payer requirements, processes, communication, education, and the operational conditions contributing to the issue.
The goal is not simply to identify what went wrong. It is to understand why it happened, what it affects, and what can be done differently going forward.
“Throughout my career, I have watched talented providers and healthcare teams work incredibly hard while losing valuable time and revenue to preventable documentation deficiencies, coding errors, inefficient workflows, payer challenges, and breakdowns throughout the revenue cycle.
I created PACE Consulting because healthcare organizations deserve more than someone who simply processes the next claim or identifies the next error.
They deserve a partner who understands how the pieces connect, asks the right questions, communicates what is happening, and helps their team become stronger because of the experience.
Whether I am conducting an audit, educating a provider, evaluating a revenue cycle, reviewing coding and documentation, or helping solve an operational problem, my approach remains the same: Understand the problem. Protect compliance. Educate the people involved. Develop a practical solution.
That is what PACE was created to provide.”
More than three decades of healthcare experience across coding, auditing, compliance, billing, revenue-cycle operations, provider education, and leadership.
Looking beyond individual transactions to identify patterns, root causes, vulnerabilities, and opportunities throughout healthcare operations.
Compliance comes before short-term financial gain. Recommendations should be grounded in documentation, applicable guidance, ethical practices, and responsible reimbursement.
Practical strategies designed to improve accuracy, strengthen processes, educate teams, reduce preventable revenue leakage, and support sustainable performance.
Sustainable revenue and responsible compliance belong on the same side.
Strong financial performance depends upon accurate documentation, appropriate coding, effective workflows, knowledgeable teams, disciplined follow-up, and responsible reimbursement practices.
PACE helps organizations examine these areas together—because pursuing revenue without protecting compliance creates unnecessary risk, while addressing compliance without understanding operational realities can leave organizations without practical solutions.
Healthcare consulting, coding and compliance audits, documentation review, revenue-cycle assessments, operational analysis, revenue optimization, and strategic guidance.
Coding, billing, payment posting and reconciliation, A/R follow-up, denial management, prior authorization, revenue recovery, and revenue-cycle support.
Practical education for providers, coders, billers, administrative teams, and healthcare leaders—delivered virtually, in person, or through customized organizational programs.
Each area can operate independently or work together, allowing PACE to build services around the needs of the organization rather than forcing every client into the same model.
Discover the organization, its challenges, goals, workflows, and current processes.
Assess documentation, coding, revenue-cycle processes, compliance considerations, and available data.
Recommend practical strategies based on the findings and needs of the organization.
Improve through implementation support, education, process refinement, and continued evaluation.
Finding an error may solve one problem. Understanding its cause can help prevent the next one.
Every healthcare organization is different. Sometimes the need is an independent audit. Sometimes it is coding or compliance guidance. Sometimes revenue-cycle performance needs attention. Sometimes providers and staff need better education. And sometimes several seemingly unrelated problems are connected.
PACE starts by understanding where you are, identifying what stands between you and where you want to be, and helping determine what comes next.
